At-home COVID-19 Nasal swab:

A significant percentage of the population has decided or will decide to visit medical facilities such as a hospital in order to receive a COVID-19 test. Testing can also be offered by community centers and other non-medical facilities. While there are undoubtedly plenty of locations to get a COVID-19 test, there are a number of concerns that may stop someone from visiting a facility to get tested.

For example, the risk of exposure may be a consideration to keep in mind, and some people may be looking for more immediate results without needing to queue. Getting tested at home has several advantages compared to getting tested at a facility:

  • There’s no need to leave your home. You book an appointment, one of our specialists will come to your location, and they’ll perform the entire test right there.
  • There are no waiting rooms involved. The medical specialist will come to you and you won’t be exposed to other people in a waiting room.
  • The risk of exposure is greatly reduced. You don’t need to go to a public area, you don’t need to sit or stand near others, and you won’t have to travel on public transport to reach the facility.
  • Same-day appointments are available for people that need to be tested as soon as possible. This can be crucial for people that plan to travel and need to be tested as quickly as possible.
  • At-home COVID tests do exist in the form of self-testing kits. However, the accuracy of these is questionable and may not provide accurate results due to poor testing methods or inadequate sample collection due to a lack of training and instruction.

Should I get Tested for COVID-19?

Deciding whether or not you should get a test for COVID-19 is not always easy. Since some of the symptoms can be very similar to other conditions such as a common cold, it can be difficult to determine by ourselves if we may have COVID-19 or not. However, there are certain situations where it’s a good idea to book a COVID-19 test to give yourself peace of mind and to protect those around you. Here are some of the most common reasons for getting a COVID-19 test.

  • If you have symptoms of COVID-19. Since the list of symptoms is fairly wide, it’s a good idea to combine this reason with others. Main symptoms include a high temperature, a continuous cough, and a change in your sense of taste and smell.
  • If you’ve been in close contact with someone with COVID-19. If one of your friends or family members has tested positive, then it would be responsible for them to notify people that they’ve been in close contact with. If you are one such person, then it’s worth getting a COVID-19 test to see if the infection has passed to you. You may also want to take precautions and avoid meeting with others until the results are in.
  • If you are unvaccinated and have spent a lot of time outdoors or in close contact with other
  • Same-day appointments are available for people that need to be tested as soon as possible. This can be crucial for people that plan to travel and need to be tested as quickly as possible.
  • then the chance of you being infected with COVID-19 is probably higher than the average person. In this case, it’s wise to seek COVID testing to see if you have been infected or not.

COVID-19 Testing Options

There are multiple types of COVID-19 tests that you receive in the comfort of your home. When booking your appointment with us, we can guide you on the right test to take for your circumstances. In general, these testing techniques require a specialist to take samples in different areas. Depending on the type of test and the sample used, we’ll be able to identify if you have an active COVID-19 infection and if you have previously had it. Samples are most often taken in the nose, the throat, or from your blood. Here are the three COVID-19 testing options that we offer:

At-Home COVID-19 Nasal swab test: $195

The COVID-19 PCR screen is used for the detection of the SARS-Cov-2 virus (COVID-19). The test requires a non-invasive nasal swab that only takes a few seconds. This Gold Standard test meets travel and pre-surgery requirements. Results are provided within 48 hours, typically issued the next day (except on weekends). This is the test that is usually required for travel.

A nasal swab test typically involves collecting a nasal discharge sample from the nostrils. A soft swab is carefully inserted into the nose, then it is rotated and pressed against the inside of the nostril several times to collect as much nasal discharge as possible. Once finished, the sample is placed in a bag and sent for processing in a lab. This test is typically used to check for an active COVID-19 infection.

At-Home Molecular Rapid COVID Test: $245 (15 minutes per test, NOT PCR)

A molecular rapid COVID-19 test is designed to offer results as quickly as possible, usually within 20 minutes. This is a NAAT molecular test (not a PCR or antigen test). Swab is either taken from the front part of the nasal passageway or throat. Click here to learn more about our rapid COVID-19 testing capabilities. This test is usually not accepted for travel.

This test can diagnose active COVID-19 infections but it cannot show if you’ve ever had COVID-19 in the past.

At-Home COVID-19 Antibody test: $195

The COVID-19 Antibody is designed to detect immune proteins called antibodies, which may indicate that you had previous COVID-19 infection. It should not be used to diagnose an active infection. The test has an EUA (Emergency Use Authorization) with 100% sensitivity and 99.8% specificity. The test requires a simple venipuncture (blood draw) that can be done in the comfort of your home. Most accurate results 10-14 days from exposure. Results are typically seen the next day. This can also be referred to as a serological test by some professionals.

These are the main COVID test at-home options that we offer. If you’re unsure what test you require, then feel free to contact us for more information.

FAQs About COVID-19 Home Testing

We understand that some of our clients may have questions regarding our COVID-19 at-home testing. As such, we’ve created this simple FAQ to help you better understand the processes and any concerns that are commonly voiced when speaking to our clients.

Is at-home COVID-19 testing accurate?

COVID-19 tests have varying degrees of accuracy based on individual testing factors and methodologies. Molecular and antigen tests are the most accurate with follow-up tests being unnecessary most of the time. However, false positives and negative results can happen. This can be caused by different factors and it’s always recommended to take a second test if you believe that the results are different from your expectations. For antibody tests, a second test may be needed due to the time it takes for antibodies to develop after being exposed to the COVID-19 virus.

Which is the most accurate COVID-19 test?

The most accurate COVID-19 test is the molecular test. This type of test used to take hours, but with our at-home molecular rapid tests, results are now available within 20 minutes.

Which COVID-19 test should I go for?

This depends on your personal circumstances and your reasons for getting tested. Some tests are required for travel purposes, while other tests may be required to return to work. Circumstances change all the time so if you’re unsure what test you should be taking, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us and ask for more information.

How do I schedule an appointment for at-home COVID-19 testing?

You can schedule an appointment for at-home COVID-19 testing by filling out the form on our website. Alternatively, you can contact us via phone to speak to one of our specialists.

Who will come to collect the sample?

On the date of your scheduled appointment, we’ll dispatch one of our experienced medical providers straight to you. Our staff is friendly, professional, and well-trained to deliver a high-quality experience to every client we work with.

How long does it take for the results to arrive?

This depends on the type of test that you request.

A molecular rapid COVID-19 test will show results within 20 minutes.

A nasal swab will show results within 48 hours.

With our COVID-19 antibody test, results are typically available the next day.

How do I interpret the result?

For nasal swab tests and molecular rapid COVID tests, you’ll be notified if you have an active COVID-19 infection or not.

For an antibody test, you’ll be notified if you have been previously infected by COVID-19 and if you possess antibodies.

What does a positive test result mean?

A positive test result for the nasal swab test and molecular rapid COVID tests means that the virus that causes COVID-19 was found in your sample. Usually this indicates that you currently have an active COVID-19 infection.

A positive test result for an antibody test means that you possess antibodies for COVID-19, meaning you have been previously infected by the virus.

What does a negative test result mean?

A negative test result for the nasal swab test and molecular rapid COVID tests means that the virus that causes COVID-19 was not found in your sample. Usually this indicates that you currently do not have an active COVID-19 infection.

A negative test result for an antibody test means that you do not possess antibodies for COVID-19. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you don’t have an active COVID-19 infection as this type of test only checks for antibodies. You may want to follow up with another test to see if you currently have an active infection.
